SHARK ROUTE: learning about sharks and ours oceans
The Shark Route is an innovative project that seeks to educate elementary students about the importance of marine resources, specially sharks. The purpose of the project is to create a new vision about sharks, and their role in the aquatic ecosystem, and specially let the children know that sharks are not fearful creatures, and that they are in fact, a vulnerable species that accomplish a vital role in the trophic chain of the oceans.
Shark's Route will visit different educational centers located in the small fishing communities of the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, where the main economic resources are the marine resources. In each educational center we will carry out interactive educational activities with the students in order to explain the basic aspects of sharks’ evolution, biology, ecology and their threats. In addition, we will provide different guidelines for the students to improve and help the conservation and protection of sharks within their communities.
This initiative wants to create conscience among the students, stimulating respect and love toward the marine life. This way, we will encourage the children to have a new attitude towards marine resources, which will hopefully carry on with them for the rest of their life, seeking a more environmental responsible new generation of citizens.
